Windows XP/2000 Setup Error

Today one of the PC is having problem booting up. When try to restart it, you can see that the boot up screen (where system is detecting your hard drive) has multiple vertical lines. Something you seen on the old TV. At first I though it was the display card issue, it is a built in type. I added an extra ATI Rage AGP card and boot it up. Weird, it show up the same result. Nevertheless, it took around 1-2 minutes to finish the POST then only start to load Windows. After waited awhile, windows won’t boot. It hangs at the booting screen.

I though it could be OS issue, hence try to repair it using the recovery disc (Windows XP & 2000 bootup disc). When setup boot, both XP and 2000 setup show this error:

“An unexpected error (1006387264) occurred at line 1768 in d:\xpsp1\base\boot\setup\arcdisp.c

Press any key to continue”

Windows Setup Error

After pressing any key, the system restarted. hm…then a quick search through Google and found the solution, it seems that the error is caused by a faulty RAM. I remove one of the RAM and tested it, the first RAM when booted up it beeps 3 times (I think). Then replaced it with a second RAM and this type no more vertical lines and Windows boot up smoothly. null
