Installing Windows 7 Beta

Have you downloaded Windows 7 Beta? If not, you can read on my previous post about Test Drive Windows 7 Now.

I did not download it from Microsoft website, but gold hold of the Windows 7 Beta DVD from my manager. He went for the Microsoft Technet the other day, and lucky me has the chance to test it. null

Below are the pictures taken from my mobile phone which is not that clear, but just to show you on installing it. It took me around 30mins to have it installed on my spare test PC which is AMD Athlon XP 3200, 1GB ram and 80GB hard drive.

I loaded the DVD and boot it up for setup. Screen shots as follow:

New animated Windows logo, you will see 4 colorful dot merge into forming the Windows logo and giving out flash each time. Not like the older versions of Windows which showing the loading bar and a fix Windows logo. Something new…null

When setup loaded, you can choose which languages to install, time settings and keyboard input methods. The next screen, you will choose which partition to install Windows 7.

Once that is done, setup starts the installation progress. Setup will restart twice to finish the installation.

When Windows first start, it will detect all your settings and optimise it. This screen shot show it is currently optimizing video performance.

Next you need to type in your username and computer name.

You will then need to type the provided product key from Microsoft site, if you do not have it, you can read here on how to get it.

New feature provided by Windows 7 is this “homegroup“, a homegroup is basically links for your home network computers to share files, printers or documents. The homegroup is protected with a password, so other computers on the network will need to login with the password in order to share your files. Still, I haven’t tested it…

And this is the Windows 7 desktop, taskbar are now showing as icons. Well I don’t have time to test out Windows 7 yet as need to work now ( yup, working on shift now null ). I will post more pictures and functions that Windows 7 has in a few days time. Again sorry for the low picture quality taken from my K800i. null

    wow, so there is another new windows coming soon, technology…hihz.

    The name was too simply, “Windows 7″, sound like not convincing… i mean like windows ME, windows XP, windows vista it’s sound great. hihi
